Toronto condo developer Diamond Corp. and Habitat for Humanity Toronto are teaming up to create eight affordable family units in a 35-storey downtown highrise.

“This is very exciting, this is a first. We are very excited to work with Habitat and to deliver the eight units to them,” says Bob Blazevski, executive vice president of the Diamond Corp., which along with the Kilmer Brownfield Fund, is developing 159 Wellesley E.. “Hopefully, this will be a catalyst for similar projects.”

In a first for the City of Toronto, the partnership falls under Section 37 of the Planning Act, which allows the city to authorize increases in the height and density of a project beyond existing zoning permits in exchange for community benefits.
