Women Call for a Stop to Cuts in the 2017 Toronto Budget

Councillors Kristyn Wong-Tam, Janet Davis, Joe Cressy, Sarah Doucette, and Maria Augimeri will be joined by a diverse group of women from across Toronto demanding action to stop the 2017 budget cuts.  Mothers, recreation workers, and women living in poverty will speak about their direct experience on how the City of Toronto budget is failing women and their families.

DATE:            TUESDAY, JANUARY 10, 2017

TIME:             9:00am

LOCATION: Toronto City Hall, 100 Queen Street West

2nd Floor – Outside of Committee Room 1

In July, City Council directed city staff to incorporate a gender equity lens into the 2017 budget process, however the proposed budget includes significant service cuts and high increases to user fees for services that women and their families rely on.

A diverse group of women have been organizing to stop the cuts to services and to demand gender equity in the budget process.
